“While one doesn’t need art to live, one needs it to be fully alive. I create work that lives at the intersection of art and design; pieces that make a statement, incite conversation, and hold your attention time and again.”

— Kelly Kiefer

INTRODUCTION

Kelly Kiefer, A Daring Life, is a collection of gallery-quality statement pieces; sculptural furnishings and interior accessories offered in limited editions, made-to-order commissions, and singular one-of-a-kind works. Represented alongside international luminaries of art and design, including Tom Dixon, Jeff Koons, Marcel Wanders, Zaha Hadid, Maarten Baas, Lindsey Adelman, Gio Ponti, and Karl Springer, the collection bridges the worlds of fine art, architecture, and interior design.

BIOGRAPHY

Kelly Kiefer has always been an artist. Raised in Colorado with the mountains as both classroom and playground, she was rock climbing by two and skiing off cliffs not long after; an upbringing that would shape everything to come. The landscapes of her youth are embedded in her work: texture, light, reflection, and the quiet tension between hard and soft. Look closer, and the pieces speak to something more universal. Pain and beauty. Struggle and triumph. Heartache and healing.

Kiefer has never been interested in the safe or expected. She creates work that experts have called impossible to produce, driven by a foundational belief that fortune favors the bold. “I love that ‘what if’ is such a tiny little phrase loaded with possibility,” she says. It is this restless curiosity, the willingness to ask “what if?” and then pursue the answer relentlessly, that defines both the artist and the work.

Her commitment to craft is exacting. Kiefer works across an extraordinary range of materials: cast bronze, cast stainless steel, 24-karat gold, nickel-plated steel, platinum, titanium, hand-carved Italian marble, rare woods, glass, resin, and more. She employs old-world techniques alongside current technology and the expertise of engineers. Having spent over a decade working on commission before launching her own collection, she brings both depth of experience and a resolute insistence on exceptional quality to every piece. The complexity of the work demands a team; a small army of expert artisans, built over many years.

For years, highly regarded voices in the design and art worlds urged Kiefer to make her vision readily available: work that expressed her singular aesthetic on her own terms. She answered with A Daring Life, a collection of sculpture that is also functional, debuted at the NY Design Center and now offered in the realms of commercial and residential architecture, interior design, and limited-edition collected art. Thousands of hours of drawing, sculpting, building, sanding, and 3D prototyping went into a body of work primarily cast in bronze, stainless steel, and 24-karat gold.

In the words of Evan Lobel, Proprietor of Lobel Modern Gallery in New York: “Kelly’s designs are not only unique, they are exceptional. The level of design as well as the level of execution and the evolved aesthetic make her pieces stand out in a market crowded with pedestrian pieces.”

Kelly designed this ‘fascinator hat’ for a fundraising event for women in theater. This piece illustrates Kelly’s wide range and perspective, and diverse use of materials and methods. This piece also serves as the maquette for a future sculpture.
